01. What is soundproof glass?

Sound insulation glass is a kind of glass product that plays a certain role in shielding sound. It is usually a laminated glass with a double or multi-layer composite structure. The sound insulation damping glue (film) in the middle plays a key role in the weakening and attenuation of sound transmission.

02. The role and classification of soundproof glass

At present, the more common ones on the market are insulating glass, vacuum glass, laminated glass, etc.

Insulating glass is composed of two layers of glass, which uses air to partially absorb the energy of medium and high frequency sound vibration, thereby reducing the sound level of sound waves. The sound insulation effect is relatively weak, with a maximum of only ten decibels.

Vacuum glass is to seal the two pieces of flat glass around, vacuumize the gap and seal the exhaust hole. The gap between the two pieces of glass is 01-02mm. Generally, at least one of the two pieces of vacuum glass is low-emissivity glass. This minimizes heat loss through conduction, convection and radiation through the vacuum glass.

Laminated glass

This kind of glass is a relatively popular and professional soundproof glass in the current soundproof window market. Laminated glass is generally composed of two layers of glass and film, and the two layers of glass are made of different materials, which can block sound waves of different wavelengths.

The film in the middle of the laminated glass is equivalent to a damping layer, which can effectively suppress the vibration of the glass, thereby improving the sound insulation performance of the glass. And the glass thickness is not large, the density is high, the higher the density of the laminated glass, the better the sound insulation effect.

03. Precautions for installing soundproof glass

Generally speaking, soundproof glass is half heavier than ordinary insulating glass. If the width of the window is too large, it is easy to deform the hanging angle and cause the seal to fail. Therefore, the best window width of the soundproof window is 35-65 cm. The width is about 50, 55, 60 cm, which is determined according to the specific conditions of the site.

The original window can be dismantled or not, but it has better sound insulation effect if the original window is not removed. If the original window is not removed, it will be quieter by about 2 decibels. Therefore, it is generally not recommended to remove the original window.

04. Precautions for using soundproof glass

▷ After installing the soundproof glass, tear off the protective film on the surface of the profile in time and scrub it clean, otherwise a large amount of the protective film adhesive will remain on the profile, making it difficult to clean.

▷ When the casement top-hung window is in use, it can be opened differently by changing the handle direction of the switch. It is necessary to know how to operate it to avoid damage.

▷ When the sliding soundproof window is in use, the sliding track should be cleaned frequently to keep it clean, and ensure that there is no dust accumulation on the surface of the track and the groove.
